TRADE: Trent Frederic Dealt to Edmonton Oilers
The sell-off has begun in Boston, as Bruins forward Trent Frederic is heading to the Edmonton Oilers as part of a three-way deal with the New Jersey Devils.
The Oilers report it as three connected trades, as follows:Trade 1: Boston Bruins trade Trent Frederic (50% salary retained) to New Jersey Devils in exchange for unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser.
Trade 2: New Jersey trades Trent Frederic (50% salary retained) to Edmonton in exchange for unsigned draft choice Shane Lachance.
Trade 3: Boston trades Max Jones and unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser to Edmonton in exchange for Max Wanner, St. Louis' second-round pick in 2025 (owned by Edmonton) and Edmonton's own fourth-round selection in 2026.
Nice piece of business for Edmonton, who get Frederic at a cap hit of $575,000 after 75% was eaten up by Boston (50%) and New Jersey (25% off total).

Frederic's health is still unclear, but the Oilers have room to keep him on the club without having to trade someone else.
The Devils retain 25% of Frederic's $2.3M cap hit, while the Bruins retain 50%. That means the Oilers get him at a cap hit of just $575,000.
In exchange for their retention, the Devils receive forward Shane LaChance from the Oilers.
The 21-year-old is a former 6th-round selection in the 2021 Draft, and is currently playing at Boston U.
Frederic will be out another 2-3 weeks with foot injury
Frederic is currently out week-to-week with a lower-body injury, and in fact was just placed on IR by the Bruins earlier today. He's missed three games, and there's word he'll likely be out for another two to three weeks. He was seen without a walking boot for the first time today since his injury, per John Shannon, and will resume skating shortly.
Frederic adds toughness to the Oilers' bottom six, and can play both center and wing. His secondary scoring production is down this year, with just eight goals, after scoring 35 over the previous two seasons. But he's registered 155 hits through 57 games. He'll be a tremendous addition for the stretch drive and the playoffs, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Evander Kane's status.
Hauser, also heading to Edmonton, is a 6’4" Czech forward, selected in the 5th round by the Devils in 2022, but unsigned. He had 11 goals and 25 points in 11 games in the U20 Czechian league.
27-year-old Max Jones is a former first-rounder (2016) and has played most of this season with Providence in the AHL where he has 13 goals in 38 games. He's been up for seven games with Boston, but has 265 games of NHL experience over seven years. Pierre LeBrun calls him “an underrated part of the deal. He should provide energy and physicality on the fourth line.”
Wanner, the right-shot D-man the Bruins received, is a 21-year-old former 7th round pick (2021) who has been playing with Bakersfield in the AHL.
