Utah Hockey Club Signs Alex Kerfoot To Contract Extension

The Utah Hockey Club is staying busy, as they have signed forward Alex Kerfoot to a one-year, $3 million contract extension.

This Kerfoot news comes just two days after Utah signed defenseman Olli Maatta to a contract extension. Now, Kerfoot will also be staying put in Utah beyond this campaign after signing this new deal.

Seeing Utah decide to keep Kerfoot around is entirely understandable. The 30-year-old forward is a key part of Utah's roster and is one of their top leaders, as evidenced by the veteran forward being an alternate captain. Now, he will continue to be an important part of Utah's roster during next season as well.

Kerfoot has appeared in 61 games this season with Utah, where he has seven goals, 16 points, and 45 blocks. This is after he had 13 goals and 45 points in 82 games last season with the Arizona Coyotes.

Overall, there isn't much risk in Utah signing Kerfoot to this extension. They got him at a fairly reasonable cap hit, and it is only for one season. It will be fascinating to see how he performs after getting this extension from here.

In 585 career NHL games split between the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Coyotes, and Utah, Kerfoot has 94 goals, 186 assists, and 280 points.
