Vancouver Canucks Get Troubling News On Filip Chytil

The Vancouver Canucks received troubling news on forward Filip Chytil, who remains in concussion protocol and did not travel with the team for the start of their six-game road trip.

Chytil suffered the injury on March 14 after Chicago Blackhawks forward Jason Dickinson hit him from behind, sending him headfirst into the boards. Head coach Rick Tocchet initially left open the possibility of Chytil rejoining the team mid-trip, saying he was “feeling a little bit better,” but his absence from the team’s departure suggests a longer recovery timeline.

With only 14 games left in the regular season, there is growing concern that his season could be over.

Chytil, who has a history of concussions, has missed the Canucks' last two games against Utah and Winnipeg and missed Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Blues, which resulted in a 4-3 overtime loss.

His absence is a significant loss, as he plays a key role in the top six and contributes on the power play. Vancouver acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the New York Rangers on January 31, but he has struggled points-wise since joining the team, posting two goals and four assists with a minus-11 rating in 15 games.

The Canucks, who are in the thick of the playoff race, will have to push forward without one of their key forwards, making their postseason bid even more challenging.

Adding to the disappointment, Chytil will likely miss his anticipated return to Madison Square Garden on Saturday, where he spent nearly a decade with the Rangers.

While the team has not ruled out the possibility of him rejoining them later in the trip, the severity of his injury and the cautious approach from the Canucks medical staff make it unlikely. “We just want to make sure we handle this properly,” Tocchet said earlier this week.
