VIDEO: Washington Capitals' Alex Ovechkin Scores Career Goal No. 888

During the Washington Capitals' March 20 matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers, superstar forward Alex Ovechkin got the scoring going at the 14:25 mark of the first period. With this, The Great 8 has now scored the 888th goal of his NHL career and is just seven goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL all-time goals record.
Ovechkin's 888th career NHL goal was a nice one, too, as he one-timed an Aliaksei Protas feed past Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson.

At 39 years old, Ovechkin is still one of the NHL's best players. The 2004 first-overall pick now has 35 goals on the season to go along with 22 assists and 56 points in 52 games this season. With numbers like these, the future Hall of Famer is having an incredible season, and he is charging toward making history because of it.

The Capitals have 13 games left this season, so Ovechkin still has time to pass Gretzky before the campaign is over. He has certainly been heating up as of late, too, as he has eight goals and 13 points over his last 12 contests.

Nevertheless, Ovechkin is continuing to get closer to breaking Gretzky's record and is showing no signs of slowing down. Hockey fans, no matter what team they cheer for, should embrace what they are seeing from No. 8. He is making history.
