VIDEO: Wild Scene As Matt Rempe Bloodied in Fight After Crushing Blankeburg On The Glass

In a wild scene at Madison Square Garden, hulking New York Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe crushed Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg against the end boards, causing the defender's head to snap back violently. Instantly, Preds' D-man Andreas Englund rushed to his teammates' defense, dropping the gloves with Rempe and leaving the Rangers' giant with a bloodied face.

That is one heavyweight battle. The 6'4" Englund, though, actually looked small as he went at it with the 6'9", 255-pound behemoth of the Rangers. But he got in several shots early which left Rempe's face worse for the wear.

As for the hit into the glass, Rempe's extended arm and elbow is what caused Blakenburg's head to violently snap while taking the hit. The Predators' D-man, by the way, is 5'9", 177 pounds — a full foot shorter than Rempe.

We'll have to keep our eyes on the NHL's Department of Player Safety to see what they have to say about the incident. The Rangers big man received a two-minute minor for elbowing and five minutes for fighting, while Englund gets two minutes for instigating, five for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct.

Rempe was suspended eight games for boarding and elbowing Dallas Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen back in December, and also was hit was a four-game ban for an elbow to the head of New Jersey’s Jonas Siegenthaler last season.

Rempe has four points in 24 games this season, with 68 hits and 41 penalty minutes. He's averaging 7:33 of ice time.
