Washington Capitals Sign Charlie Lindgren To Multi-Year Extension

The Washington Capitals have made a notable move, as they have re-signed goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a three-year, $9 million ($3 million AAV) contract extension.

Lindgren, 31, was a pending unrestricted free agent and could have hit the free agent market on July 1. However, the Capitals have now avoided the possibility of losing him this summer by signing him to this new contract extension.

Seeing the Capitals decide to keep Lindgren around is understandable. He has not only formed a nice goalie tandem with Logan Thompson this season but has been a key part of the Capitals' roster over the last three campaigns.

In 27 games this season with the Capitals, Lindgren has a 13-10-3 record, a 2.70 goals-against average, a .898 save percentage, and one shutout. This was after he had a 25-16-7 record, a .911 save percentage, and a 2.67 goals-against average in 50 games this past season with the Capitals.

In 137 career NHL games split between the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, and Capitals, Lindgren has a 66-49-15 record, a .907 save percentage, and a 2.77 goals-against average. It will be fascinating to see how the Lakeville, Minnesota native improves upon these career stats after landing this three-year extension from the Caps.
