3 Offseason Targets For Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes are going to have a lot of cap space freed up this summer and are going to have to revamp some of their lineup. They arguably need additions for forward, defense, and goalie and have options.
John Gibson
Carolina might be moving away from the injury-prone Frederik Andersen who is also going to be 35 next season. Injuries in net to Andersen haven't hurt the Hurricanes so much in the regular season as it does in the playoffs. Pyotr Kochetkov doesn't seem like the starter who will give the Hurricanes 55+ games, but rather a good option to go to half the time or just over half. John Gibson has been linked to this team for a while now and I think it's time they execute a deal with Lukas Dostal taking over as the starter in Anaheim.
Aaron Ekblad
The Hurricanes are likely moving on from both Brent Bruns and Dmitry Orlov as they are on the back halves of their careers or in Burns' case, almost done playing. While the team has brought Alexander Nikishin over already, they will need a larger addition for the right side. Aaron Ekblad would fit in nicely here and either be the anchor on the second pairing with Nikishin or Shayne Gostisbehere, or play alongside Jaccob Slavin and create a very tough pairing to play against. He won't be that cheap, but there is a need to be filled.
Brock Nelson
The Hurricanes continue to have an interesting forward lineup. They are very deep and certain players can play multiple roles, but have some changes to be made. There will likely be a few players hitting free agency and there have been some young talent enter into the fold like Jackson Blake this season. A middle-six forward or a second line center would do the Hurricanes the most justice. Brock Nelson wouldn't cost a ton and wouldn't have to be signed to a long-term deal past 4-5 years. Caroline needs goals, especially if a player like Jack Roslovic leaves, and Nelson has proven time and time again that he can score.
