3-Time Stanley Cup Champ Joel Quenneville Offered NHL Head Coaching Job

After being officially reinstated last July, three-time Stanley Cup champion head coach Joel Quenneville reportedly offered the job with the Anaheim Ducks

It was bound to happen at some point. After being officially reinstated last July, three-time Stanley Cup champion head coach Joel Quenneville has interviewed with the Anaheim Ducks for their vacancy behind the bench.

And according to insider Jimmy Murphy of rg.org, the 65-year-old Quenneville has been offered the job.

The Ducks fired Greg Cronin just one week ago, and now, after two seasons with a first-time NHL head coach, they're hoping to go with one of the top veteran coaches in the history of hockey. Quenneville has a .612 winning percentage behind the bench, with a 969-572-77 record, making him the second-winningest coach in league history. He led the Chicago Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

But Quenneville also comes with some baggage. He was forced to step down from the Florida Panthers on Oct. 28, 2021, after an investigation determined that Quenneville exhibited a lack of response when he was the Blackhawks bench boss during the sordid Brad Aldrich/Kyle Beach sexual assault case that took place in 2010.

Joel Quenneville was reinstated by Gary Bettman on July 1, 2024

But after a meeting with commissioner Gary Bettman last summer, he was brought back into the fold as of July 1st, 2024, and he's been looking for another head coaching job since.

The Ducks are in the middle of a rebuild, and have missed the playoffs for seven straight seasons, but with names like Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier, Olen Zellweger, and Troy Terry along with top prospects like Beckett Sennecke and Tristan Luneau, they have a bright future that might entice Quenneville to accept.

The puck is now in Quenneville's court.
