Another Team Falls: Kraken Eliminated From Playoff Contention
The Seattle Kraken have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention for the 2024-25 season. This is the franchise's fourth season and the team has now missed in consecutive years. They have only qualified for the playoffs once.
The Kraken are getting there with some of their talent that they have brought in or drafted, but it is still going to take a little time. They aren't going to be the bottom of the barrel and have a winning mindset brought upon by signing Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson to big contracts last summer. Everything does have to come together though.
The Kraken were eliminated after losing 3-1 to the Dallas Stars and are the fourth team in the Western Conference that will not be playing in the playoffs this season after the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, and Nashville Predators.
Seattle has a record of 31-38-6 for 68 points in 75 games. The team sits seventh in their division, but do have eight more points than what they finished with in their inaugural seasons. Not so much went wrong this season as the Kraken just didn't have a good enough team overall to compete for a playoff spot.
Vince Dunn and Jordan Eberle dealt with injuries while Jared McCann just couldn't buy goals like he normally does. Joey Daccord has had a strong season, but sometimes a good goaltender isn't enough to help a team win every game.
The future does look bright with Shane Wright, Kaapo Kakko, Ryker Evans, and Matty Beniers showing good stuff this season, but this young core has to take big steps and more help has to be provided for the Kraken to make the jump into the playoffs soon.
