Avalanche’s Cale Makar Hits a Milestone Only 8 Others Have Reached

Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar etched his name into the NHL record books Thursday night, firing home a power-play goal in a dominant 7-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

With that goal, Makar became just the ninth defenseman in league history to hit the 30-goal mark in a single season—and the first since Mike Green's electrifying 31-goal campaign back in 2008-09.

Since 1990, only three blueliners have achieved this feat: Makar, Green, and Hall of Famer Kevin Hatcher

But the company gets even more legendary when you look at the full list—Bobby Orr (5x!), Denis Potvin (3x), Paul Coffey (4x), and icons like Ray Bourque and Doug Wilson have all done it. Now, Makar stands among them.

And he didn’t stop there. The 26-year-old phenom added two assists, hitting the 90-point mark for the second straight year and further solidifying his case for another Norris Trophy.

If he wins, it’ll be his second in just six NHL seasons—proof that he’s not just one of the best defensemen in the game today, but one of the most offensively dominant in NHL history.

With a career average of 1.08 points per game, Makar trails only Orr and Coffey among defensemen with 300+ games played. And considering he’s been point-per-game in five of his six seasons (only missing as a rookie with 50 in 57 games), the scariest part is… he might just be getting started.
