Breaking: Horrible Injury Update for Oilers & Ekholm Ahead of Playoffs
Key Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm finally returned on Friday after having been out since March 26th. But just as quickly, he was back on the sidelines, after just two shifts. Now comes the devastating word that the top-pairing D-man could be done for the season.
Tough news for Oilers and Ekholm. Hearing there are further tests to be done, but it’s believed to be a serious injury that worst case scenario may end his season, best case scenario will keep him sidelined for quite some time.

TSN reporter Ryan Rishaug tells us that Ekholm is out again with what's believed to be "a serious injury." He says that in the worst-case scenario, Ekholm's season may be done. But even in the best-case scenario, he'll be out for "quite some time".
The 34-year-old blueliner fell twice while skating around with no one around him in the opening period on Friday night. He had his skates checked but eventually left the game after trying a short skate during a stoppage in play.
He had missed seven straight games before his brief return on Friday, and had played only four of Edmonton's previous 17 contests. He has nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 64 games this season with a plus/minus of +11, in just over 22 minutes of ice time per night.
Needless to say, a long Oilers playoff run is going to be very difficult without their big top-pairing D-man.
