Breaking: HUGE News for Gabriel Landeskog and Colorado Avalanche

Could it really be? Are we on the verge of a Gabriel Landeskog return after nearly three years? News on Wednesday morning has the Colorado Avalanche captain being assigned to the AHL's Colorado Eagles on a conditioning stint, indicating a return to the NHL for this year's playoffs just might actually happen.

Landeskog's last time on the ice for the Avalanche saw him lifting the Stanley Cup in June of 2022. Since then, he has battled to come back from a devastating knee injury.

Head coach Jared Bednar said that Landeskog may play for the Eagles as soon as Friday.

He can play up to three games in the AHL before having to be activated off of LTIR.

In other news, the Avs captain has also been nominated as Colorado's entry for the Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

It sounds like a Landeskog boost for the playoffs is around the corner for the Avalanche.

Teammate Erik Johnson says "I think it's a matter of when, not if, anymore."

And that "when" is sounding sooner rather than later.

Colorado will likely be finishing 3rd place in the Central Division (currently with 100 points and three games to play), and are almost certainly set to face the Dallas Stars (and old friend Mikko Rantanen) in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
