Breaking: Landeskog To Play 1st Game In Nearly 3 Years

For the first time since he hoisted the Stanley Cup in June of 2022, Gabriel Landeskog will be playing in a professional hockey game Friday night. After nearly three gruelling years of recovering from his devastating knee injury, the Colorado Avalanche captain will play for their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles.

It'll be the first game on his conditioning stint announced earlier this week. He can play three games there before the Avs must take him off of LTIR, and the plan would seem to be to make that happen in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which start in eight days.

He skated at practice this morning with the Eagles, and is set to step on the ice after his long and winding road or recovery.

The Avs' nine-time 20+ goal scorer, now 32 years old, was also nominated this week as Colorado's entry for the Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

In his last full season, 2021-22, Landeskog posted his second 30-goal campaign, with 59 points in 51 games. In the postseason, he came up huge for the Avalanche, helping to lead them to the Cup, with 11 goals and 22 points in 20 games, while posting an NHL-best plus/minus rating of +15.

Over his 11 years in the league, he has 248 goals and 571 points in 738 games, with a +77 rating. His 82-game averages are 28 goals and 63 points.
