Breaking: Winnipeg Jets Lock Up Alex Iafallo To Extension

As they get set to head into the playoffs this weekend, the Winnipeg Jets have taken care of some off-ice business, locking up a key piece of their Presidents Trophy puzzle, signing forward Alex Iafallo to a three-year extension worth $11 million.

The deal will pay the 31-year-old, eight-year veteran forward $3.67 million annually. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, and was coming off a four-year pact with a $4 million AAV.

After coming over in the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade two years ago, Iafallo has established a major role for himself on the best regular-season team in the NHL this season. With his tenacity and ability to play up and down the lineup, Iafallo registered another consistent season, with 15 goals and 31 points, even though he has played a career-low 13:13 of ice time per night.

AFP Analytics' midseason projections had him in line to command a 3-year pact with a $3.7 million AAV, so this deal is pretty much exactly in line with that.

In eight NHL seasons, Iafallo has recorded 111 goals and 262 points in 583 games and has consistently been in and around the 15-goal, 30-point mark each year.

The Eden, NY native went undrafted after four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and spent the first six seasons of his career with the LA Kings, and the last two with Winnipeg.
