Bruins Rumors: Joonas Korpisalo Poised To Request A Trade Out of Boston

Joonas Korpisalo, Boston Bruins
Just days after hearing that several teams will be circling the Boston Bruins this summer wondering if they can pry Jeremy Swayman loose, we now get word that his backup, Joonas Korpisalo may be ready to ask for a trade out of Boston.

According to James Murphy in rg.org, the goalie's agent has made his client's case clear: Play him or trade him.
Numerous sources have told RG Media that Korpisalo’s agent Markus Lehto has let Bruins general manager Don Sweeney know that if the plan isn’t to give Korpisalo more starts next season, his client will welcome a trade this offseason.

Korpisalo not happy with his playing time

In fact, the goaltender laid the seeds for this possibility in his end-of-season media availability when he said, “I don’t think there’s any goalie in the league who’s really comfortable playing 20 to 25 games. So I’m going to push for more games, and we’ll see what happens".

The 31-year-old veteran of 10 seasons in the NHL was dealt to Boston in the Linus Ullmark trade with the Ottawa Senators last summer, but only started 24 games for the Bruins during the 2024-25 season after having started 49 the year before in Ottawa. He posted an .893 save percentage and a 2.90 goals against average with an 11-10-3 mark for Boston.

“I’m hearing his name out there more and more,” an NHL executive told Murphy. “He’s not happy and thinks he earned more playing time. He’s more than open to exploring trade options.”

Korpisalo becoming a trade option

In fact, some teams did come calling on GM Don Sweeney at the trade deadline, but nothing was close enough to get him to consider a move with Korpisalo at the time.

“They got calls and I know that,” Murphy quotes 'a trusted NHL source' as saying. “What materialized and how far, I can’t tell you, but there was some interest.”

In 303 career NHL games, Korpisalo has a .901 Sv%, with a 3.05 GAA, having played as well for the Columbus Blue Jackets (8 seasons) and the Los Angeles Kings (one year), in addition to the Senators and Bruins.

Insider Elliotte Friedman also revealed that several teams will be inquiring about Bruins starter Swayman's availability this summer after a chaotic and disappointing season.
