Canadiens No. 2 Prospect, Goalie Jacob Fowler, Nearing Decision on His Status for Next Season

While his equally notable teammates from Boston College, Ryan Leonard (Washington Capitals) and Gabe Perreault (NY Rangers) turned pro within 24 hours of getting knocked out of the NCAAs, goalie Jacob Fowler—the Montreal Canadiens' No. 2 prospect and one of the top goaltending prospects in all of hockey—has yet to make his final decision on what he'll do next. Though he's getting closer.

Insider Cam Robinson from Elite Prospects tells us that there is "some decent smoke out there that Jacob Fowler (MTL) is leaning towards returning to Boston College for a junior season."

Fellow insider Marco D'Amico, who has his ear to the ground on all things Canadiens, emphasizes that no decision has been made yet. He adds that the Habs are not anxious for Fowler to burn a year of his ELC by signing it now, but rather would want him to take an amateur tryout (ATO) now with Laval of the AHL, maybe get in a couple of playoff games there, then sign his entry-level contract for the 2025-26 season.

But all of that could be a moot point if the exciting young netminder just decides to go back to Boston College for a third year instead. The ball is in his court, ultimately, though D'Amico notes that the 20-year-old netminder has been "adamant about wanting to be part of the Canadiens organization," and has some family ties and familiarity with the city.

The exiting youngster has had two dominant seasons with the Eagles, posting a .926 save percentage in his freshman year in 2023-24, then upping the ante this season as a freshman, with an eye-popping .940 Sv% and a 1.63 goals against average. Over the two years, he has a 57-13-3 mark.
