Ex-Ducks Coach Greg Cronin Interested In One Particular Team
Former Ducks head coach Greg Cronin would eagerly accept the opportunity if considered for the Bruins’ head coaching position, he told the Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul Dupont.
“I’m a coach, right?” Cronin said. “With all these openings, I’d throw my hat in the ring and see what happens. Honestly, if I got the Bruins’ job, I’d be doing handsprings and jumping over rainbows. As a Boston guy, that would be like winning the lottery ten times over.”
Cronin was a finalist for the Bruins’ job in 2022 when he was coaching the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate. However, GM Don Sweeney ultimately chose Jim Montgomery, who went on to win the 2023 Jack Adams Award before being dismissed in November.
The Bruins finished the 2024-25 season under interim coach Joe Sacco, who remains in contention for the permanent role, according to Sweeney.
After missing out on the Bruins’ job, Cronin landed his first NHL head coaching position with the Ducks in 2023, signing a three-year deal to replace Dallas Eakins. However, Anaheim let him go earlier this month with one year remaining on his contract.
Despite a 67-82-15 (.424) record, the Ducks showed improvement this season, posting their best finish since 2018-19.
While Cronin may be interested in the Bruins’ vacancy, the feeling may not be mutual. Sweeney has stressed the need for offensive improvement as a top offseason priority—something Cronin’s Ducks struggled with.
Under his leadership, Anaheim ranked 31st in goals per game (2.56), 28th in shots per game (27.2), and 32nd in power-play efficiency (14.9%).
Beyond Sacco, it’s unclear who else the Bruins are considering for the full-time coaching role.
