Hurricanes' Brind'Amour: 'Morons' in media made Chatfield fight overblown
Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour isn't happy with the 'moronic' media members who made too much of defenceman Jalen Chatfield's fight with Washington Capitals forward Connor McMichael.
Last Wednesday Chatfield and McMichael went toe-to-toe during a Capitals/Hurricanes matchup, where Chatfield used a wild takedown tactic to end the fight, almost causing McMichael to smash his head off the ice. It was an MMA style takedown that has no business being in a hockey fight.
With the two teams set to faceoff again Thursday, there's been a ton of speculation about a potential rematch between the two, however, Brind'Amour feels it's just the media trying to spark another fight, and he's not happy with how much negative attention Chatfield's receiving.
"The media's the one that (made drama out of) it, and they're morons, typically," the bench boss said Monday when asked if he thinks any emotions will carry over into Thursday's game. "If you're going to say what happened at the end is anything other than (what) I've seen a thousand times before, you don't know what you're talking about."Go look at the game exactly before, the Boston-Detroit game. Two really good heavyweights going at it, watch how that fight ends. It's a takedown, sorry. Quit making (it) something that it isn't because that's not a fair characterization of our player, and that's what bothers me. Do your homework."
