NHL Free Agency: Eastern Conference Team Linked To Brock Boeser

The New York Rangers are emerging as a potential front-runner for Brock Boeser in free agency this summer, with growing speculation that the 28-year-old winger will not return to the Vancouver Canucks.

Boeser, whose $6.6 million AAV contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, recently told Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre, “Honestly, it’s unlikely at this point,” when asked about staying in Vancouver.

The Canucks held onto Boeser through the trade deadline but failed to reach the postseason, leaving them empty-handed as he appears set to walk for nothing in July.

New York is expected to have ample cap space and could be a strong fit for Boeser, especially if they part ways with veterans like Chris Kreider or make other cost-cutting moves. With Boeser reportedly seeking a contract in the range of $8 million annually, the Rangers would need to free up room—potentially through a coaching change and a retool of their top six.

Boeser would bring a much-needed scoring punch to a team whose offensive stars underperformed this season, and a reunion with former teammate J.T. Miller, now in New York, could be a draw. He’s tallied 25 goals and 49 points in 72 games this season, following a career-high 40 goals the year prior.

General manager Chris Drury has signaled plans to be aggressive this offseason, and Boeser represents one of the few top-six forwards in his prime set to hit the market.

Vancouver reportedly offered him a five-year, $40 million extension earlier this season, but Boeser turned it down, believing he can earn more in free agency. As other top names like Mitch Marner may stay put, Boeser could become one of the most sought-after options available, drawing interest from teams like Boston, Calgary, and Minnesota—but the Rangers’ mix of cap space, market appeal, and need for a scoring winger makes them a legit contender.
