NHL Injury News: Oilers' Leon Draisaitl goes down with injury vs. Sharks

The Edmonton Oilers faithful are holding their breath.

Superstar forward Leon Draisaitl left Thursday's game against the San Jose Sharks with an undisclosed injury, and expect to hear the diagnosis sometime on Friday, as head coach Kris Knoblauch didn't share very many details after the game.

Draisaitl appeared in serious discomfort after a weird play during the second period. The 29-year-old sniper just returned to the lineup recently, and was playing his third game in a row, after missing four contests with an undisclosed injury. Not the trend the Oilers were hoping for this late in the season, especially with Connor McDavid still on the sidelines, along with Trent Frederic, Mattias Ekholm and Stuart Skinner.

Draisaitl is up to 52 goals this season, leading the NHL by 10 over Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander. Draisaitl trails just Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov with 105 points, good for third in the Art Ross Trophy race.

The Oilers defeated the Sharks 3-2 despite Draisaitl departing, and now all of Oilers Nation waits on the edge of their seat to see what kind of news is coming, with just a couple of weeks before the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin.

Here's the play that ended Draisaitl's night:
