Emberson, 24, was a pending restricted for the Oilers heading into the offseason. However, after signing this contract extension, he will be staying put.
Emberson was acquired by the Oilers during the 2024 NHL offseason from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round pick. It is a move that the Oilers must be happy about, as Emberson has become a nice part of the team's blueline since. It is why they have decided to keep him around.
Emberson became a mainstay on the Oilers' blueline this season. He set new career highs with two goals, 11 assists, 13 points, 97 blocks, and 125 hits in 76 games played. Overall, the Eau Claire, Wisconsin native took a nice step in the right direction this campaign and has now been rewarded with this multi-year contract extension because of it.
Emberson was selected by the Arizona Coyotes with the 73rd overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. In 106 career NHL games over two seasons split between the Sharks and Oilers, Emberson has three goals, 20 assists, 23 points, 143 blocks, 219 hits, and a minus-9 rating.
