NHL News: Sharks Sign NCAA National Champion Goaltender Matt Davis

Another member of the two-time  NCAA champion University of Denver Pioneers has turned pro, as the San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Matt Davis to an AHL contract with the Barracuda.

Davis cemented himself as a real prospect when he made save after miraculous save in the 2024 Frozen Four, stopping 67 of 68 shots in Denver's run to its record 10th national championship. Overall in the tournament, he posted an insane .979 save percentage. He was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

Davis, 23, posted a 29-10-1 record this season with the Pioneers, with a .924 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average. They made it back to the Frozen Four , only to lose in heartbreaking fashion in double-OT.

In his four years at Denver, he's 63-16-4 with a .921 Sv%.

Davis experienced his first NHL Development Camp last July, attending the Colorado Avalanche's camp, right in his DU backyard.

But it's the Sharks organization that has stepped in to nab him. With Yaroslav Askarov slated to take that next step up to the NHL next season, Davis should be the starter with the Barracuda.

Davis will be following in a lone line of pro athletes in his family, as his father, John, played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Edmonton Eskimos and the Toronto Argos. He is also a cousin of Houston Rockets NBA star Dillon Brooks.
