NHL Offseason Mock Trade: Anaheim Ducks' Deal Trevor Zegras to Utah HC
As the 2024-25 NHL regular season is winding down, GM's from some of the bottom-dwelling teams are starting to contemplate their next move this upcoming offseason. Anaheim Ducks GM Pat Verbeek is going to have some decisions to make this summer, which could include moving Trevor Zegras.
Zegras, 24, has one season left at $5.75 million, does not hold any trade protection, and so far this season through 50 games, has 10 goals and 28 points. To say he's underachieving would be a huge understatement and a change of scenery could do wonders for the skilled forward
NHLTR Mock Trade: Ducks move Trevor Zegras to Utah HC for Lawson Crouse.
Crouse is a few years older than Zegras, and would give the Ducks a top-nine winger who brings a ton of sandpaper and is very hard to play against. The Ducks have a ton of skill with their young forwards, and Crouse would give them a new element up front.
Crouse has two seasons left at $4.3 million AAV, and does not have any trade protection on his current deal. Through 75 games, the power forward has 11 goals and 17 points. His career best season came back in 2022-23, when he scored 24 goals. He followed it up with 23 last season, and in the right situation, can get back to these scoring ways.
Zegras, on the other hand, needs a change of scenery. He'd be given every opportunity to shine in Utah and could give HC another potential star up front that they can market to their fan base. Zegras has all the skill in the world, and with more attention to detail on the defensive side, or a coach who doesn't mind the risky plays, he could once again get back to hitting the scoresheet on a regular basis.
