NHL Rumors: 3 Buffalo Sabres Contract Extension Candidates

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, let's take a look at the Buffalo Sabres.

Bowen Byram

It would not be surprising if the Sabres worked hard to sign Byram to a contract extension as soon as possible. The 23-year-old is a crucial part of the Sabres' blueline and is in the middle of a strong season. In 74 contests, he has seven goals and has set new career highs with 28 assists, 35 points, and a plus-11 rating. With this, the pending restricted free agent is undoubtedly due for a massive raise.

JJ Peterka

Peterka is another key young Sabre who the club should be looking to lock up quickly. The 2020 second-round pick has hit a new level this season, posting 23 goals and a career high 60 points in 69 contests. With this, the pending restricted free agent has become a huge part of the Sabres' forward group and is set for his big payday.

Ryan McLeod

McLeod has been an amazing addition to Buffalo's roster this season, so they are undoubtedly going to look to extend the restricted free agent this offseason. In 71 games this season, he has set new career highs with 19 goals, 29 assists, and 48 points. He also sees time on the Sabres' power play and penalty kill, so he should be a major part of their roster moving forward.
