NHL Rumors: 3 New Jersey Devils Contract Extension Candidates

The 2025 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now. Yet, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be taking a look at the New Jersey Devils.

Luke Hughes

Hughes' entry-level deal expires once the season is done, and he is undoubtedly going to get a significant raise from his current $925,000 cap hit. The 21-year-old defenseman is among the players that the Devils are building around, and they should work hard to extend him to a long-term deal. In 71 games this season, the 2021 first-round pick posted seven goals, 44 points, and 60 blocks.

Jake Allen

Allen was excellent as the Devils' backup goaltender this season, so it would not be surprising if they tried to extend him before July 1. In 31 regular-season games in 2024-25, the 34-year-old had a 2.66 goals-against average to go along with a .908 save percentage. With numbers like these, it would be good if the Devils could keep him around.

Cody Glass

Since being acquired at the 2025 NHL trade deadline from the Nashville Predators, Glass has fit in nicely. In 14 regular-season games with the Devils following the move, the 6-foot-3 forward had two goals, seven points, and a plus-4 rating. With this, the Devils could consider keeping the pending restricted free agent around beyond this season.
