NHL Rumors: 5 Teams In Pursuit of David Carle, One Preparing 'Major Offer'

University of Denver head coach David Carle is undoubtedly the hottest coaching candidate in the NHL. The only thing is, he doesn't need to leave Denver, and has set an extravagant price to convince him to do so.

But that isn't stopping the Chicago Blackhawks from preparing a 'major offer' to land the two-time NCAA national champion. As James Murphy reports for rg.org, sources say the Hawks are ready to pounce.

They’re ready to show him the money if the situation presents itself...

They’re not the only ones, but I’m told they want him badly, and if he’s interested, they’re going to do whatever it takes to get him to Chicago and become the guy to lead this rebuild.

Four other teams are said by Murphy's sources to be teams to watch on pursuing Carle:

  • Philadelphia Flyers
  • Boston Bruins
  • Utah HC
  • Seattle Kraken

The latter two still have a head coach in place, but if Carle is able to be had, they could be expected to make a run at him.

As for the Blackhawks' job, that would seem to be the gem of them all, giving Carle a chance to build his own program from the bottom up, with a couple of stunning pieces already in place in Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar, among others.

“This is just my opinion," another source told Murphy, "but I think that job is his if he wants it, and yeah, other teams are gunning for him, but why wouldn’t you want a chance to develop what they have with Bedard, and all the other high-end prospects they have?"

Carle led the UD Pioneers to national titles in 2022 and 2024, and made it to the Frozen Four again this year, only to lose in heartbreaking fashion in double-OT in the semi-final.

The 35-year-old has proven his development chops, leading Denver to a 179-74-17
record in his seven seasons behind the bench.

"Does he want another (NCAA) title there before he makes the jump?" asked the source. "I’m not sure, but what I am sure of is he has a lot of money waiting for him with the Blackhawks and a chance to build an NHL program too.”
