NHL Rumors: Bruins Joonas Korpisalo Demands More Playing Time or a Trade!
Joonas Korpisalo trade rumors intensify as Bruins goaltender seeks larger role or a move.
As NHL offseason discussions ramp up, attention is turning to the Boston Bruins' goaltending situation, where backup Joonas Korpisalo could be pushing for a change.
Following recent speculation about Jeremy Swayman’s trade availability, new reports suggest Korpisalo may also be looking for an exit if his playing time doesn’t increase.
According to Bruins insider James Murphy, Korpisalo’s agent, Markus Lehto, has reportedly delivered a firm message to Bruins GM Don Sweeney: either guarantee the Finnish netminder more starts next season or facilitate a trade.
What’s Driving Korpisalo’s Potential Exit?
Korpisalo’s frustration stems from a sharp decline in ice time after arriving in Boston via the Linus Ullmark trade last summer.
While he started 49 games with the Ottawa Senators in 2023-24, he saw just 24 starts with the Bruins—a significant drop for a goalie accustomed to a heavier workload.
In his end-of-season comments, Korpisalo made his stance clear: “No goaltender in this league is content with 20 to 25 games. I’ll be pushing for more starts, and we’ll see where that takes me.” The 31-year-old’s desire for a larger role is evident, whether in Boston or with another team.
Statistically, Korpisalo had an up-and-down season, posting an .893 save percentage, a 2.90 GAA, and an 11-10-3 record.
Despite these modest numbers, NHL executives have taken notice of his availability. “His name is coming up in conversations,” one source told Murphy. “He believes he deserves more playing time and is open to a trade if that’s not an option in Boston.”
Murphy also reported that multiple teams have already inquired about Korpisalo’s status, though no frontrunners have emerged yet. If the Bruins can’t promise him a bigger role, trade talks could escalate quickly in the coming weeks.
Will Korpisalo stay in Boston with an expanded workload, or will he be on the move? One thing is certain—this situation is worth watching closely.
