NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Islanders' Anthony Duclair
New York Islanders forward Anthony Duclair has been put in a tough spot of late, with head coach Patrick Roy ripping him to shreds via the media for his struggling ways. Duclair hasn't been able to find consistent production this season on Long Island, and could very well be heading down the road of a trade this offseason.
Recently, Roy slammed Duclair. "He was god-awful,” Roy said postgame earlier this week. “He had a bad game. That’s why I didn’t play him a lot. He’s lucky to be in the lineup. Sorry if I lose it on him, but that’s how I feel.”
Duclair is under contract for three more seasons at $3.5 million AAV, and this summer, holds a full no-trade clause, given him some control over his destiny. Right now, Roy has no confidence in the veteran winger, and the 29-year-old Duclair could be, once again, making his way to another franchise. Skilled, yes, but he's also becoming quite the 'suitcase' over the course of his NHL career.
Duclair has just seven goals and 11 points in 44 games this season, a long drop off from 58 points in 74 game season back in 2021-22 as a member of the Florida Panthers. As for potential trade destinations, Duclair has some say in the matter, but it's going to come down to what type of sweetener or salary retention the Islanders are interested in providing to an onlooking team.
Three teams to consider are the Minnesota Wild, who will have tons of cap space, the Winnipeg Jets, who could need some help on the wing, and the Columbus Blue Jackets, who will be looking to upgrade their offense this summer.
For now, it's a battle between Roy and Duclair, and it's getting ugly on Long Island.
