But instead of building on his 57-point campaign, the 24-year-old saw his production drop dramatically to just 18 points in 55 games during the 2024-25 season.
Maccelli became a frequent healthy scratch, unable to secure consistent ice time as younger players like Josh Doan and Kailer Yamamoto emerged. “Obviously not what I was expecting or anyone was expecting,” Maccelli admitted. “Just have to get back at it this summer, get better and have a better year next year.”

His past performance, including a 49-point rookie season in 2022-23, makes him an intriguing option for other teams seeking a bounce-back candidate. Whether he remains in Salt Lake City or is moved this summer, Maccelli will need to prove he still belongs in a top-six NHL role.
As he returns to Finland this offseason, his mindset is focused on growth. “You want to be out there with the guys, help the team win,” he said. “But you’re not. It’s a mental grind.”
