NHL Trade Rumors: Which Predators Are On The Move This Summer?

On a recent episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli asked former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton which veteran player the Nashville Predators should consider trading this summer.

With the Predators set to miss the playoffs for the second time in three seasons, Seravalli noted the team’s aging core and long-term commitments, mentioning players like Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, Juuse Saros, Steven Stamkos, and Jonathan Marchessault.

“This is a really old team for a team that has so much term locked in,” Seravalli said.

Hutton pointed to Stamkos or Marchessault as the most realistic trade candidates. “They kind of check the same box for me,” he said, while expressing that Forsberg and Josi still bring too much to the team to consider moving.

Josi, in particular, was praised for his leadership and ability to log big minutes. Hutton added that Saros remains essential now that top prospect Yaroslav Askarov is gone. Both Stamkos and Marchessault were signed to four-year deals last summer, but moving either would be difficult.

Stamkos has a full no-movement clause and an $8.5 million cap hit, while Marchessault carries a more affordable $5.5 million AAV but has a 15-team no-trade list and his own no-movement clause.

Despite the challenges, Seravalli and Hutton agree that something has to give. With the Predators' big summer spending failing to yield results, GM Barry Trotz could be forced to explore some tricky decisions in order to reset a team that hasn’t met expectations.
