NY Rangers Facing 'A Foundation Shakeup To The Core' This Offseason, per NHL Execs

It was a year of turmoil at Madison Square Garden, and it should be no surprise to learn that a "massive offseason overhaul" is coming for the New York Rangers, as Jim Biringer writes in rg.org.

Speaking with rival NHL executives, Biringer has confirmed that the Blueshirts will not be standing pat after the monumentally disappointing season they just had. One source told him that changes will be sweeping through the entire team.

Oh yeah, things are going to change in New York this summer. This is a foundation shake(up) to their core. I can't see the Rangers just ignoring all this.

"All this" includes a fall from grace that saw them go from the Presidents Trophy winners last season with the best record in the NHL, to missing the playoffs this year—and a 31-point drop in the standings.

It also includes drama that continued throughout the season, including the trades of captain Jacob Trouba, Kaapo Kakko, Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren, and Jimmy Vesey. There were rumors that other longtime Rangers were on the block as well, including Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad.

Laviolette & Drury on the hot seat in New York

More recently, there was the controversy over the savage statements made by a frustrated Calvin de Haan, and now the job of head coach Peter Laviolette seems to be in serious jeopardy. And some are now wondering, could GM Chris Drury also be in trouble?

“If they decide to make a coaching change, is the GM that far behind him?” an anonymous NHL executive said.

But while the Rangers still believe they are in 'win-now mode', per sources, most do believe that an overhaul is inevitable after the shocking collapse they went through this season.

“Change is coming to the roster and to the core of the team. Chris Kreider’s name will be out there again,” a source told Biringer. “There is no way you can run it back with the same group.”

Other names whose futures will be seriously under the microscope include the aforementioned Zibanejad, restricted free agent K'Andre Miller, and now even the man named the team's MVP this week, Artemi Panarin. Today saw the revelation of a troubling scandal centering around the 10-year veteran

It's going to be a long summer for the Rangers, and when the smoke clears, it sounds like we'll likely be seeing a significantly different team.
