Penguins Rumors: 3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations For Matt Grzelcyk

It was another rough year for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but defenseman Matt Grzelcyk was one of their bright spots. The Massachusetts native had a strong campaign with the Penguins, setting new career highs with 39 assists and 40 points in 82 games.

After a season like this, Grzelcyk will surely generate interest in free agency this summer if the Penguins can't re-sign. Let's look at three specific teams who could pursue him.

Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets could be a team to watch if Grzelcyk hits the free-agent market this offseason. They could use a bit more offense from the point, and this will be even more of the case if they lose pending UFA Ivan Provorov this summer. If the Blue Jackets added Grzelcyk, he could fit well on their power play and on their third pairing, at a minimum.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes could be on the hunt for another defenseman this offseason. Dmitry Orlov is a pending UFA, and Grzelcyk could be a solid replacement for him if he walks. Grzelcyk could also draw the attention of the Hurricanes because of his playoff experience.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks should be looking to add an offensive defenseman this offseason, and Grzelcyk would be a good target for them because of it. He would have the opportunity to play top-four minutes in San Jose if signed and would be an obvious choice for their power play.
