Red Wings Rumors: Update On Patrick Kane's Future In Detroit

Patrick Kane’s future with the Detroit Red Wings remains undecided, but the 36-year-old forward expressed optimism about a potential return.

Speaking during the team’s locker clean-out day, Kane acknowledged “there’s definitely some mutual interest in coming back and continuing on here.”

After a second straight one-year deal with Detroit, Kane indicated he's open to a similar contract structure again, especially after finding success under head coach Todd McLellan. He tallied 59 points in 72 games, including 45 in just 43 games following the coaching change.

Beyond the numbers, Kane emphasized how well both he and his young son have adjusted to life in Detroit.

He cited the welcoming atmosphere around the team, especially how players’ children are included in the locker room experience. “Imagine I took him away from Archie,” Kane said, referring to Alex DeBrincat’s son. “He’d be crushed.”

Kane’s line with DeBrincat and Marco Kasper showed strong chemistry down the stretch, further supporting the case for keeping the veteran winger in Detroit.

Kane also hinted at a personal milestone he’d like to reach, with 1,500 career games in sight after hitting 1,300 this season.

He said he still loves the game and isn’t thinking about retiring any time soon. “It’s my life,” he said. “It’s what I want to do.” While contract talks are still ahead, both Kane’s tone and performance suggest that a return to Detroit for the 2025-26 season is a realistic and likely outcome.
