St. Louis Blues Suffer Big Injury Blow To Dylan Holloway

The St. Louis Blues have suffered a big blow as forward Dylan Holloway has been ruled week-to-week with a lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.

Holloway left Thursday night’s 5-4 overtime win against the Pittsburgh Penguins after taking a hit from rookie Rutger McGroarty in the first period. He didn’t return after the intermission, and head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed they are awaiting a full prognosis but expect him to miss at least two games.

“That’s an elite player for us, someone who plays in all situations,” said teammate Jake Neighbours. “It sucked losing Dylan, and we just hope he’s OK.”

Holloway, 23, has been a key figure in St. Louis' remarkable 11-game winning streak, which ties a franchise record. The former Edmonton Oilers first-round pick is enjoying a breakout season in his first year with the Blues after signing an offer sheet last summer.

He ranks second on the team with 26 goals and third with 63 points through 77 games, and leads the team with eight game-winning goals—tied for seventh in the NHL.

Beyond the scoring, he’s been the Blues’ most effective two-way forward, boasting a team-best +18.1 expected rating and a +21 plus-minus while averaging nearly 17 minutes per night.

With only five games remaining in the regular season and the Blues nearly locked into a playoff spot, Holloway’s availability for the start of the postseason remains in doubt.

His absence leaves a noticeable hole in the top six, where he’s spent most of the year alongside Jordan Kyrou and Brayden Schenn.

Rookie Jimmy Snuggerud, recently signed out of the University of Minnesota, will get a chance to step up, joining Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich on a new-look second line.
